Ingredients
- 1 loaf (12-14 oz) French bread, sourdough, or challah
- 8 oz full-fat cream cheese, softened
- 8 large eggs
- 2 and 1/4 cups whole milk
- 2/3 cup light brown sugar
- 3 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 Tablespoons confectioners' sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- optional: maple syrup and/or confectioners' sugar for topping
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. Cube the bread and layer half in the pan.
- In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth; add confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Spoon mixture over bread cubes. Top with remaining bread.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, and brown sugar; pour over bread layers. Cover and refrigerate overnight or for at least 3–4 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Mix brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon for topping; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over casserole.
- Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes until golden brown on top.
