Description

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes (do not drain)
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce or tomato puree
  • 3 ounces tomato paste (about ¼ cup)
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 12 cups water (or more as needed to adjust consistency)
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (or more to taste)
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 8 ounces bowtie pasta (uncooked; see notes for substitutions)
  • ½ cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, shaved, shredded, or grated
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
  2. Sauté ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is cooked through.
  3. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and uncooked pasta.
  4. Bring to a boil then reduce to medium heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until pasta is tender.
  5. Adjust consistency with more water or broth if needed.
  6. Serve hot with desired toppings like ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and fresh parsley.
