- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 large onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes (do not drain)
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce or tomato puree
- 3 ounces tomato paste (about ¼ cup)
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1–2 cups water (or more as needed to adjust consistency)
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon sea salt (or more to taste)
- Black pepper, to taste
- 8 ounces bowtie pasta (uncooked; see notes for substitutions)
- ½ cup ricotta cheese
- 2 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, shaved, shredded, or grated
- ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
- Sauté ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is cooked through.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and uncooked pasta.
- Bring to a boil then reduce to medium heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until pasta is tender.
- Adjust consistency with more water or broth if needed.
- Serve hot with desired toppings like ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and fresh parsley.
